It simply would not be a Midsummer or Sankthans celebration in Scandinavia without a bonfire. Sankthans and Midsummer are one the same in Scandinavia and they take place between 21 and 23 June depending on which country you are celebrating in. It's a highlight of the summer and high point when we celebrate not only the summer solstice (the longest day) but also the Christian festival of St John on 24 June.
