Metsäkävely: The Finnish Habit of Forest Bathing

There is a stillness in the Nordic forest that seems to settle into your bones the moment you step beneath the shelter of the trees. The Finns have a beautiful word for the practice of walking there—metsäkävely, literally “forest walking,” though it's much more than simple a stroll in the forest. It is a gentle ritual of slowing down, breathing deeply, and allowing the forest to work its quiet magic on you. Over the years of living a Nordic life, I’ve come to see metsäkävely not only as a pastime, but as a way of reconnecting with something ancient, grounding, and intentional.
