Why do Norwegians celebrate food with special days?

September is a month that sees lots of foods celebrated in Norway. It's the month of Norway's national dish, fårikål, but it's also the month when we celebrate apples.


This might seem like something that is only celebrated because it's clever commercially for the producers of the food. But it's embraced by everyone and turned into something of an event and there are ancient reasons and traditions for doing this.
