These popular sweet treats are a favourite in Sweden and Norway and every shop from the biggest to the smallest has them on the shelf. They are sometimes strangely called "dammsugare" or vacuum cleaners because they resemble a Swedish vacuum cleaner from the 1920s. Punschrulle are cylinders of sweet, chocolate flavoured filling covered in green marzipan and dipped in dark chocolate. They are usually flavoured with the Swedish liqueur punsch, but in the absence of that rum or rum flavouring is a great substitute.
The beauty of punschruller is that you don't have to bake them. The filling consists of cake crumbs, chocolate, oats, butter and flavouring covered in marzipan and the ends dipped in chocolate. What's not to love!
