Constitution Day or National Day in Norway starts a long time before it’s official date of 17 May. For weeks (months even) marching bands have been practising and rehearsing for that perfect synchronisation, school kids have marched around the playground countless times, town councils have cleaned and swept and planted. National dress has been taken out, tried on and cleaned and the incredible silver filigree jewellery has been shined, bunad shoes bought and everyone prepared to look their absolute best. It is not unrealistic to say that everyone works to make it a memorable day
